Our Story

The Story Behind Jarvah Biltong

At Jarvah Biltong, we begin with faith and end with love. Three things are at the heart of everything we do: God, family and food.

When we begin with God, we recognise that all we have has first been provided for us. Even our name is rooted in family and faith. Jarvah combines the names of our two daughters—one meaning “Light of God” and the other “the sweetness of God.” We pray that everything we make and everything we do brings a little of that light and sweetness to others.

That is why we are committed to making food that is real, wholesome and good.

England meets Africa

​

Our Company logo tells another part of our story. The ray of light and the bee represent our two daughters, while the E and A represent England and Africa.

South Africa has been our heritage and our first love for biltong; England has been our home for the past decade. Jarvah brings these two worlds together through our shared love of heritage, family and good food.

As the South African saying goes:

“We have one leg in England and one in Africa.”

The Winged Bull

​

Our winged bull, marked with the Byzantine cross, pays homage to St Luke the Physician and Gospel writer, who is also traditionally honoured as the patron saint of butchers and meat workers.

It is a reminder that even something as simple as preparing food can be an act of craft, service and gratitude.
